Default 81 Power Antenna problem

I just installed a GM reproduction antenna on my 81' that I bought from Corvette Central. It worked great with the factory radio about 15 times. Went out for a ride a while ago and when I turned the car off the antenna stayed up. Have any of you had a repro antenna burn out so quick? I noticed that it sits really close to the muffler, could this be a problem? If this is going to be an issue I am considering going with a fixed mast antenna as these damn power ones are not cheap at $169.00 a pop. What do you guys think, could I have just gotten a bad unit? Should I return it and ask for a replacement or my cash? She looked so sleek with the antenna down when parked. Car gives me so much grief that I feel like selling it to get a C-5, but when i drive her, I fall in love again, lol.

Sounds real familiar to me also, I purchased a GM reproduction antenna for my "81" from Zip, it went up and down for maybe 10 times then it wouldn't go up. The motor was really hot when I started troubleshooting it, I plan to return it. After all of this I found out that all I needed to do was replace the mast on my original, the motor worked fine. I bought the mast section from Corvette Central, works fine so far.

Hope that if I put another one on it lasts. Are these reproduction antennas just refurbished originals or are they actually brand new?

What was wrong with your original unit that it couldn't be fixed?

I believe it was the antenna mast, but, I am not all that mechanical and I figured it was just easier to replace the whole thing with a new unit. How long since you replaced yours?

This is what we do, if you have a problem please send it back. No questions asked. We will not make you eat shipping on a defective part if it was not your fault.
