My friend asked me if i have mine and i have no idea what he is talking about.
The tank sticker is a document attached to the top of the gas tank at the factory when the car was built. It beleive it contains information about what dealership ordered the car, production date , and options installed.
They're desirable because they supply proof of options installed when there may be doubt of authenticity.
Quite often they're either missing or so weathered they're unreadable.
If you are curious, remove the spare tire, cover, and lower the gas tank. I think they're usually on the top left side of the tank.
I found mine but it wasn't readable at all, too badly weathered.

They are located on the top(in the back) of the the gas tank. A lot of these come out in pieces or non legible. They can also be located inside of the car in different places.
Your trim plate inside the drivers door jam will give you the exact build date of your car. It's in the upper left corner of that silver metal plate that's riveted in there. It will be 1 letter (month of build) followed by 2 numbers (day of build). The bottom line of numbers is your paint code color and trim (interior) code material/color.
Gas tank build sheets can be hit or miss. I dropped my fuel tank and found the sheet that was for the Corvette ahead or behind mine on the assembly line. Some got no stickers, wrong stickers, or 2 stickers. That was "quality control" back then!
Does anyone have a picture of where it is? I think the dick head that my grandpa had paint it, painted over it. :
I can't think of any way to paint over it. It's attached to the top of the gas tank. You can't see it or reach it without lowering the gas tank.
Only possible way to come close would be to remove or somehow lower the rubber seal between the filler neck and body, then look between the tank on body, to the left and see if the sheet is there. Never heard of anybody doing this successfully.
No not the the tank sticker. LOL I was talking about the trim plate. But I found it. I had to take a butter knife to it to get the paint off. The guy obviously doesnt know anything about classic cars.
I was going to attach it in my previous post. So her ya go. And don't scrape it up with a butter knife! Use lacquer thinner on a rag to clean the paint off.
