You are one smart vettehead..... Thank You....
one piggy back here did you have a chance to read my last post about my broken dip stick?? I have been driving for about two months like this but plan on taking a trip tomarrow and am a little concerned about it causing a problem do you have an opinion on the subject? That is why I needed to know about the year as I have to order a new one.
Knowing the date of manufacture only partially helps in knowing whether a car has an 'early' or 'late' style of part on it. Some parts changed over in the first few weeks, some at the very end of production.
For 76s, early and late usually applies to whether the car had the A6 AC compressor or the new R4. A running change to the R4 was made in the spring of 76.
Finally got the dip stick today from Chevy dealer put it in and the oil came almost half the way up the stick??? The Vin number says it is a late production model so I bought the longer stick 20" as said was needed for this production run. It is obviously too long will have to order the 17 5/16" confused What am I overlooking, or am I mentally light on the matter?
If you really want to know if the car is early or late just check out the fan shroud.....If you are unlucky like I was you have the $1200.00 dollar one then the car is considered early. If its the $200.00 dollar fan shroud then the car is late.
All I know is my shroud had been cut in two for some reason. I needed to get the radiator repaired and told the guy to put a new fan shroud on since mine was cut. He tried putting on the $200.00 fan shroud but it would not fit saying mine was the expensive early one. I just had him epoxy mine back togeather. To me they look pretty much the same just fit on differently. Maybe someone else on the forum can tell you what the difference is.

Also.......do you guys know how to read your trim tab? It's pretty simple..
'76 production started in Aug. '75. In the upper right corner of the tab you'll see a letter & a number. The letter is the month it was built. Aug. was A, Sept. B and so on. The number is the day it was built. Mine is I 29....April 29th. May is J....June K......
Checked the drivers door where the tire sticker is and
it clearly has 06/76 on the sticker with the Vin number
just above it. The dip stick is still to long?? Thank again ALL
