I always just got a small flat head screw driver and push the flipped out wire tabs a little on each side till its back enough to pop the door lock and window crank off. real simple to do once you get it figure it out
I have a storebought tool for the window crank horseshoe shaped retainers... it is too large for the miniature ones on the lock *****. I made a simple "J" hook from a heavy duty paper clip... works well when held in a pair of needle nose vise-grips. I use a wooden paint stir stick to push the door panel back far enough for access to the clips... no damage that way.

Reason: spelling
I got it off with a small little nail puller I have. Tooh the panel off to find that I could not get to the mirror because of the glass.!! Then figured out that there's a hex bolt under the stem that comes out. Then the stem pulls off the bracket. Then there are the screws!!!!So I took it off for nothing. I got everything back but that darn ****. Can't seem to clip it on again. I did find a sticker in the inside of the door dating 1977.
Well now I did it. Went to tighten drivers side, and the screw broke off inside the mirror. Tried to drill it out, Just made the hole bigger!! So I am in the market for a chrome drivers side mirror>anyone have one?
