I had a new '66 GTO and in '67 a friend actually wanted to trade his '66 Corvette for my GTO. Allmost did the deal ... looking back kinda wish I had .. I really liked his car.
Finally got my first Vette, just four years ago ... long wait huh ?....
I was in love with the C2 sind being a small boy back in the 60s (that and the 67/68 Mustang). I built model toy cars in the 70s. I bought a 73 Camaro in the 80s (just because it had the Corvette tail). I suffered through the 90s still yearning for a C2. And then? 2 years ago I started seriously shopping for a C2. The more I looked at them, the more I grew fond of the 68-72 C3s which were 2nd choice until then. Now, I wouldn't trade anything for my 69 convertible. The gills, the sweeping lines, the airplane cockpit feeling, the beautiful tail. Driving with the top down is one of the greatest feelings. Ever.
I guess I am not by myself,I love the lines the long hood and the sound of 7000 rpms coming out of the side pipes.like when I am entering an interstate.has anybody noticed that your top speed goes down when your age goes up?
I'm a younger c3 owner, and I started a couple years ago with a C6. It was a great car but compared to my '69 the styling was a little bland. I made the trade and so far I'm very happy. C3 styling just screams sports car and Corvette.
Well my dream was/is a split window. Did not happen way back and will not in the future. So the next best style was a chrome bumpoer C3. I have really grown to love my 70 even though it is just a basic 350/300 coupe. I think the body styling was way ahead of it`s time. I think it is still ahead of it`s time. I love the sleek look, aeronatuical cockpit and some of the gadgets like headlight washers and the fiber optics.
For me its a combination of those great looks and that go-kart type of ride it gives ya. You cant beat that view you get looking over those fenders while driving. I had a 65 convertible for 14 years that I sold not to long ago. During that time I had several sharks. The c2 was pretty to look at, was a beautiful car, but driving my 68 feels sooooo much more sporty. Just my 2 cents.
My '81 is my first Corvette. The '69 Camaro is my all time favorite GM muscle car and I have owned 4 of them during the 31 years of my time on earth. The last '69 I sold about a year ago was the fastest and best handling one I owned, essentially a Z28 clone with a ZZ4. I miss the car to this day but I could not pass up getting almost 20K for it, especially for a car with no creature comforts, not even heat.
I have been a fan for C3's for awhile and love both the chrome bumper cars and 80-82 models for their exterior styling. Before buying my '81 I had only had 1 ride in a C3, a mint blk/blk '82 when I was 17. It was so beautiful and as said before the lines and high fenders just make for a beautiful shape. My '81 surprisingly reminds me of my old '69 Camaro alot. The PO added a EFI system and 5spd to it in addition to a bumper to bumper suspension and brake rebuild. It is a true hot rod yet is comfy enough to take a 3-4 hour road trip. I love the view from the driver seat, the hood, the fenders, the center gauges, and t-tops. Getting in to a Vette for less than half of what I sold my '69 Camaro for is a great feeling.
You rarely see C3's on the road in Austin and watching everyone sprain their neck looking at mine as I drive by is a big bonus!
what is the one thing that made you choose a c3 ?????
In the late 60's as a pre-teen I was driving to the hardware store with my Dad in Indianapolis. As we were at a stoplight, I saw the most beautiful, sexy, wonderful car pull up next to us. I asked my Dad "what is that COOL car??" He smiled and said it was a Corvette. This was either a 68 or 69. From that time on I wanted a Vette.
In 1979 at the tender age of 22, I bought a brand new 79 Vette. I had a good job at the local Ford plant in Indianapolis and could afford the $200 a month payments at that time. I owned the Vette about a year when the Oil Embargo by OPEC hit and I was laid off from Ford. I hated to lose the Vette and promised myself I'd get another some day.
Fast forward to 2005, I finally fulfilled my promise and got my C3.
It had to be the lines...I've always thought the C3 had awesome lines (style) it just looks fast sitting still. I would loved to have found a bumper year but I'm perfectly happy with my 79.
I love my 79 also, Alittle more storage for the overnight bag.
