what is the one thing that made you choose a c3 ????? I always liked the 1960,62,63 and the 66 but when I went to purchase one the deal fell through and I bought my 69.I had to have the gills and at least chrome bumpers.now that I have completely rebuilt this car and have looked at a lot of your cars it has grown on me.now I spend all my free time working on it like an addiction.I cant stop!I dont get anything from newer cars or imports.
You have nothing more than a bad case of Corvette OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Don't worry, its probably only damaging to your economic health.
For me, I had to have a 427 vette with side exhaust. The C3 was the only one within my means...and now that is questionable. Oh well, too late to turn back. Besides, the C3 really does look better than the C2.
I also would love a C2, but I also had a spot in the heart for a '73. Back in late 1973 (when I was 15) a neighbor came home with a brand new Blue '73 454. I actually routinely volunteered to wash it just so I could sit in it. Only took another 36 years for me to actually buy and restore one.
In high school My sisters boy freind bought one new I think it was 75. Long time ago! He would let Me drive it once in a while. It made Me realize a statement I heard somewhere? " wrap Your *** in fiberglass" sorry about the language. I had the feeling the car was built around Me for driving. I was attracted to the 69 because of the shark gills. Then I stumbled on My 73 and as I worked on it the body side wheel flares really grew on Me. I don't know if I could go back to a 69 now? I do know that I will have a vette for the rest of My life.
yes I also wanted a 427 so I purchased a 69 4 bolt main 435 motor minus the heads was spooked by machine shop and sold it for 2k the guy that bought the engine has built a yenco clone and loves it I think I tagged the pooch on that one

The styling. It was the generation I fell in love with as a kid. Wanted an '82 CE sense they were the last year of the C3, but found a '75, the year the "Vette bug" bit me.
The 1st car I remember seeing as a kid that i knew i wanted was a c3 with sidepipes. Don't know the year but would guess a later model. I always wanted that car. I was probally 12 at the time and for my age this was not a new car (i was born in 75) When I started seriously looking I quickly realized side pipes were not for me. I have kids and didn't want them burning their legs (or me burning mine) on them. I also realized I wanted the chrome bumpers, again not what was on the car I 1st saw. It was the curves I originally fell in love with. The chrome bumpers were just icing on the cake. I found a 72 that I liked and that was that.

The first "hot rod" I ever remember sitting in was a 1965 C2 convertible....guy 2 houses from us was selling it. I was in the 5th grade, walking around it...he put me in the driver's seat, told me to "push that pedal in and hold it down...and don't let it back up....he then started it up....black top/interior, yellow everywhere on the outside.
I was hooked. Still want a 65 or 66.....dropped a fresh motor in my 72 just last week, still wrapped in glass...still looking..
I just love the looks and the lines on these C3's. Plus, C3s with side pipes are. Another reason would have to be that as a child my dad always wanted a C3 Vette and I plan on giving him my Vette once my little sister is all grown up.

The shark body has always been my favourite. My first drive in a Vette was in 1984. It was a 69 conv. small block. I bought my 82 CE the next year. I have since had a C4 conv., a C5 conv., and now have a C6 conv. I just bought another 82 (non CE) last month and am doing a cosmetic resto on it. My dream Vette is a 69 conv. big block in black ,blue, or green.
My dream car as a kid growing up in Christchurch, New Zealand was a C3 Corvette Stingray. I had a cheap plastic toy one. Loved that thing. Strange thing is, I never actually sat in one until my 74 convertible was on the way out from L.A. around Christmas time! And I still haven't driven one! All the more reason to get working on mine.
Cheers

It had to be the lines...I've always thought the C3 had awesome lines (style) it just looks fast sitting still. I would loved to have found a bumper year but I'm perfectly happy with my 79.

You have to ask? Great lines thru the entire generation, but the '69 was the apex IMHO. Seriously, I've seen cows even stop and stare at them. I think I fell in love with the shark on first sight after having already been taken with my childhood hero's Laguna Blue '66 Sting Ray. (He was a B-52D pilot in the 'Nam.)
FWIW, every C3 I've owned has had a 427 BB, whether OEM or NOM, and I've lost count of the times I've built up or modded one for my '78. No doubts here as to why the 427 became a legend.

i love c3,s but deep down i have a soft spot for the c2. im pretty sure one day i will buy one but a new house on the way and prob kids is going to hold me up. there is only 4 cars i want really . 1st gencamaro ,2nd gen camaro, c3 and c2.
Pretty much the lines of the car. From the time I was 8 or 10 I wanted a 68 or 69 with sidepipes. After I bought my basket case car, I gathered parts to build a 427. I got talked out of the sidepipes and went fuel injected instead, but the 69 is still the best looking car GM ever made IMHO. In fact, I think all the 69 Chevrolets were the best looking ever (except Chevelle-I like a 70 better). The truck, Impala, Camaro, Nova-all the best looking. Even on the Ford side, the Mustang looked best in 69. 1969 was a good year for AMC as well. 68/69 Javelin and AMX were much better than the fatter car that started in 71. Now for Chrysler, Charger taillights got better for 69 and the Baracuda/Challenger started in 70. Anyway, I digress.
My story is pretty much the same. I was 10 in '77 and my neighbor's dad had one. We'd stand around in the garage and stare at it. On top of the lines, I recall being in awe of those futuristic flush door handles, of all things. Once, his dad unlocked it so I could actually open & close the doors!
But I beat you by 3 yrs.... it only took took me 33 years to finally get one of my own
my first ride was in a 66 convertible from Baltimore to L.A it was an unexpected ride I knew my father was coming to pick me up on the return trip back to California from vacation in Florida to live with him.but I did not know it was in a corvette that was in 1973 I was 11 and I can remember it like it was yesterday.I have been a car nut as long as I can remember oh yeah the 67 pontiac firebird at age 8 a firebird 400 and a camaro were racing and the bird won.at age 16 I traded one of my fathers cars for one while he was at work we both had the same name and I signed his name on the pink slip( it did not run)he was pretty mad but let me keep the car and helped me fix it.
It's the shape! It's timeless and as current today as when it was new.
The first C3 I drove was a two year old 75 L-46 4-speed my friend owned. A dog for Vette standards, but was fast for the year and a ton of fun!
I was hooked since 77. Just love looking out over that long hood and the raised fenders and the sound going through the gears!
