Default 1975 headers

Can anyone help me to locate a set of headers for a 1975 L-48. Every time I get a parts # it turns out there is something that won't work. My biggest problem is a steering damper or steering assist. Where is this located exactly. I was told in the crossmember. Do certain cars this year come with it and not others? Also I find a few that won't work with Turbo 400. Has anybody installed a set on a 75 and where did you get them. I appreciate any info in advance.

The last steering dampers were on the 68 standard steering cars. If you have power steering on your car, you will have a power steering cylinder under the car providing the power assist.

You want Corvette smallblock headers which will fit power steering. If you have air conditioning, you will probably need an AC compressor mounting bracket which the header manufacturer should be able to provide.

Did you say L-48 I have the same car 75 L-48 save your money the exhaust manifolds on the 75 will be as effective as headers Kinda. If your going headers: Question for sound or Horse power??for noise just switch to some magna flows or for really loud what I have Flowmasters.
For Horse power they gotta new thing just came out call a Crate Motor.

The L-48 is down tuned to make that little horsepower if you can believe that. I bet you could balance blue print pistons heads and headers and get 230 or so HP. But unless you have A machine shop and plenty of time and money . I would just get A crate motor from Jegs or Summit.

I think my 4 Cyl 944 N/A Will out run my 75 after 65

I already rebuilt the motor and have 310hp after dyno. I did a shift kit and installed pypes dual exhaust. The car has about 375 torque and runs awesome. I'm looking to add a few HP and a deeper sound with some bolt on stuff like headers and aluminum heads. Your right, when I got the car it couldn't get out of it's own way. Thanks for the help.

I'm not totally "up to speed" on the C-3s anymore, especially when it comes to header clearance for the power steering ram. However, I recently saw that a supplier called "McJacks" makes "shorty headers" for early big and small block 'Vettes. They might be what you're looking for.

Or, you could go "stealth", and have your manifolds Extrude Honed"...

Your absolutely right, I called my chevy dealer and he shows no damper on a 75. Now my options for headers have change. I have about 300 hp with a turbo 400 and shift kit. What would be a reasonable amount of HP to pick up with headers. I do have dual exhaust with crossovers installed now. Thanks again

You are out of my area of expertise, but I've always heard/read that you should get an honest 25hp gain with headers, possibly more.

All a lot of how much you'll see is also determined by what's behind the headers....

I can't recall last time I had mine out but I believe one side is hell of a lot easier coming up from underneath while the other drops in from the top pretty easily. Of course from down low you need to have that puppy up quite a bit.

I have Flo Tech ceramic headers on my 75 w/5 speed, pwr steering and A/C. No trouble fitting anything, they bolt right up from the bottom, remove the starter, A/C compressor and "Z" bar. I never installed them on the L-48, motor is a ZZ4 but same. I made up some spacers for the A/C bracket from 1/4 gal. pipe.

Thanks Leadfoot, you are right on the money. I called McJacks and talked to the owner. He has shorties that will bolt right up to my dual exhaust. The guys way cool, talked to me for quite a while. His headers have copper inside which carries the heat leaving the engine compartment cooler. Check it out if you get the chance. Thanks Again.

I looked at the flowtech headers and they sound like they will work. I was wondering on the length, about how far from the area where they go through the frame are the end of the headers. Thanks again.

Looks like about 14" from the front edge of the tubes to the flange where it meets the exaust pipe.
