Default Seat problem

The driver's seat in my 76 is stuck and will not bend foward. The button seams to work, but the seat won't fold foward. I tried a bit of force, but didn't want to break the whole mechanisim. Anyone ever have this problem?

Did you leave a Sunday newspaper in the cargo area you need to get at?

Anyways, from my 75 AIM, not sure if there are major differences or not.

I'm pretty sure that button just hinges into a hole on the longer encapsulated seat back release strap in that channel. If I put some tension on my seat I can feel the release pretty heartily. Otherwise mine is just too broken in and I barely need to press the button.

I'd be trying to get some eyes on the slide and see if it's not all corroded and glued itself shut somehow. Perhaps it got bent up or lodged in there but I'd imagine the persuasion technique you mentioned would have worked that out.

When you press the button on the back of the seat it releases a long metal strip that slides in a channel. It is more than likly rusted in place. The one in mine was so rusted that it broke of compleatly. Now the seat still folds forward and goes back to the original position with no problem but it don't lock in place any more. I have a harness bar and the harness when used holds the seat back with me in it. With just the lap belt it would be a dangerous condition if you had a really short stop or a crash from the front as the seat and you would go together.

Try pushing and holding the button while you push back on the seat first, then forward.

Your seat adjusting screw on your seat back is probably bent and slipped over the head of the screw in your seat bottom. This will not allow the seat back to fold forward. Move the seat all the way back and remove the 2 front bolts holding the seat to the floor. Next move the seat all the way forward and remove the 2 rear bolts. With the seat out of the car you can correct the problem.

My convertible does that. I have to push back on the seat back and then push the button. In the vert I have to move the seat forward so it doesn't hit the deck lid.
