Default Tranny conversion

How easy, and what would it cost, to put a TH400 into a 73 Vette with a 4 speed?

Easy-except the crossmember.

Source transmission, Use driveshaft and yoke for any C3 TH400 car, cut out crossmember and convert to removable, source cooler lines-either change radiators to one that has a cooler or use a large external cooler, source shifter and shift plate for the inside. Less than $1000 trans and all. You might be able to find someone converting to a stick that would trade with you.

Unless you already have the 400, why not go with a 200 or 700 with overdrive. Pretty much the same swap conditions and you end up with the OD.

I agree going with a 700/4L60, as you can get these built up pretty strong, and the 4th gear O.D. w/lock up converter is pretty sweet for highway cruising. I've done this on a few car's and would recommend going a 4L60E electronic, as aftermarket computer controller's are quite reasonable now. A lot easier to program shift point's/lock up than playing with mechanical linkages and external switches on the older style unit's.

Is Source transmission a business? Where are they located? Or by source do you mean locate?
