Default Interior questions

I looked and didn't know where the best place to post this would be so don't shoot me for posting it here if its wrong Ok after alot of debate I decided to stray away from the factory and go my own way on my '77, instead of replacing the interior with the stock orange faded red carpet and recover the red leather seats my wife and I both agree that all black interior would look ALOT better. Especially with the not so stock color red I decided to repaint it. My question is can some of the interior parts be dyed black and what parts? Of coarse i'm just gonna replace the carpet with new black carpet and possibly newer black leather seats but parts like the dash and so forth are in perfect shape so I'd hate to not use perfectly good parts. Either dye some peices or if anyone knows of or has any black interior pieces they have lyin around they don't need I'd be happy to make more room in your garage for you

Almost everything can be dyed, especially if you are going to black. SEM automotive interior dye will cover hard plastic, metal, leather, and vinyl.

Parts preparation is the key. Anything to be dyed must be super squeaky clean.

Check with automotive paint suppliers for the SEM.

Awesome. That will save me a boat load of the green stuff. Ok now where is the best place to get the dye? What works best?

Please explain your surface cleaning/prep routine. You obviously did it right.

Thanks for all the positive imput. The horn button and steering column are the same original pieces that were on the car before, just alot of sanding and metal polishing. Was going to go ahead and polish it all out to a chrome finish like the horn button but I thought a brushed aluminum look might look better (for now) As for surface prep I washed everything with hot soap water (dish soap worked well) then when it dried I ran some rubbing alcohol over it, heavily soiled pieces I hit with a little laquor thinner then alcohol. Worked out pretty good and I got maybe $50 in all the materials. Still have to do seat belts and sun visors yet

Airbrush flames would look good, black int. and red ext. Have the flames more of a red-orange tint.

I had actually thought about flames but I'm a little leary of that, kind of a bad omen. I painted flames on air cleaner lid of my racecar and on 1st practice earlier this year it blew oil line off and sprayed all over my headers and I had real flames coming out of the hood. Thankfully I got it shut down and jumped out in time and got fire out before it did much damage.
