Default Rear axel I.D.

These are the numbers taken off my rear axel housing today.Is there a site that can help me figure out what they are?
Date code I'm ok with: L23O (Dec 23,1970)
The Axel Ratio Code is: LR W 18 E 1
I know the LR is a 3:36 posi code but what is the rest?
Thanks in advance;Mike

There was just another thread about this a week or two ago. Look back for it.
The "E" I believe is for Eaton,
1 for 1st shift?
18 not sure.
This is just off the top of my head.

Here you go my shot at it from the NCRS Technical Information and Judging Guide.
LR = 3:36:1 Gear Ratio
W= Warren Motive Axle Plant
18= 18th day of January Julian Date of manufacture
E= Eaton Positraction Source
1= Shift when made 1st Shift
Assuming this is for a 71 corvette

Found a old thread from 2009;
LR=gear ratio=3:36 posi
W=plant produced at=Warren Motive
18=julian date=the 18th
E=posi source=Eaton
1=shift produced=day shift

Really cool to find all my numbers are coming together to show i have a numbers matching corvette!! Engine,transmission,rear axel all correct.Can the vin# from the frame be accessed with small mirror and flash light?

Hi Mike,
Yes, you can often see the VIN stamping (or parts of it) above and just to the rear of the left rear wheel with a mirror and flash light.
You need to clean the area well first. You can sometimes feel the location with your fingers because a pretty serious piece of machinery was used to make the stamping and it put a slight depression in the frame rail where the VIN is.
Whether you can read the VIN or not depends somewhat on how rusty the frame is since rust erodes the characters to some degree.
Sounds like you're having FUN!!!!
Regards,
Alan
