Just like the post says, does demographics play a part in availability in certain models? West coast verts. coupes in land locked states etc? I've found this true in hot rods I hunted down. Trucks, sedan delivery's near farm lands. coupes and roadsters near populated areas. Just wondered.
I'm sure, but only as a matter of personal choice and practicality, it's not something determined by GM.
People were much more likely to order convs. in warm, sunny states like CA and FLA, than in North Dakota. The same was true of air conditioning and heaters, when they were optional. This didn't just pertain to Corvettes, but was pretty much the case with all cars and in all era's.
In the 20s and 30s, open cars such as roadsters and tourings, were much more common in the south and west, while people in the midwest and northern states were more likely to drive coupes and sedans, and pick ups were found in rural areas.
Now with the internet available for car shopping and the existence of a whole industry of transporting collector cars cross country, I would say that demographics is becoming less of a factor.
In 2004 I found an '02 Corvette convertible on this forum and flew to Philadelphia, Pa. to by it and drive it back to the Gulf Coast. It had been purchased new in New York. In 2009 I sold the '02 on this forum to a guy in Kansas. He flew down here and drove the Vette 1000 miles back home.
In 2008 I found my '05 Vette convertible on this forum. It was in Padukah, Kty. so we drove up there and bought it and drove it to the Gulf Coast.
We see people every day travelling long distances to buy the car of their dreams from forum members.
with the national advertising sites, a car in california for sale may have spent most of its life in the rust belt. demographics don't mean much anymore.
a quick look under any old car will tell you if it spent most of its life in the desert, or in the rust belt..
