i don't believe that was on the side of the console (but like you i certainly could be mistaken). the rear defroster switch (assuming it was even available that model year) should be mounted on the top side of the console in the upper left hand corner. not on the side of the console. it is possible that the OP meant that when he specified "side", but just trying to clarify it. a picture of the switch and it's location would be helpful in determining exactly what it may be.
