Would need to know all the inner details of the engine if it's a mish-mash rebuild. If it's stock 125-160HP. Give us the details of the engine stamp pad.

where would I find this info?

Do I have to remove the alternator to see the numbers?

Wrong side of the engine- the alternator is on the LEFT side.

Hey Eoin,

I see you're in Dublin...we were just there last week walking down Grafton Street, couldn't believe the number of people shopping and actually buying stuff.
Enjoyed lots of Guinness....learned how to pour the perfect pint.

There's two possibilities:

CEJ 1978 305cu in auto trans. U LG3 145HP 2bbl full size

or

CEJ 1980 305cu in H LG4 155HP 4bbl Camaro/Impala

The engine was built in Tonawanda NY on October 24th. No small block Corvette engine were built in Tonawanda.

If you want to narrow it down the casting date will be at the back of the block near the transmission flange. My guess given the head casting date is the engine is from the 1978 MY.

Found the text below from another topic:

Yes, dimensionally all SB Chevy engines interchange (unless you include very early 265 and rare Chevy II 327 blocks). The major differences are:55-79 have the dipstick on the drivers side and 2 piece rear seal. 80-85 have dipstick on the passenger side and 2 piece rear seal.

My engine has the dipstick on the passenger side.

could you let me know the difference between 1 one piece and a two piece rear seal?

thanks
