I'm redoing my interior in my '71 and in the process of replacing the storage compartment frame. My question is about the hinges for the storage compartment doors...are they supposed to be painted the color of the interior, black, or left unpainted (i.e. steel)? My interior is red and the hinges are currently painted that color. I'm not sure if it came from the factory that way or if someone painted them at some point. My other '71 has a black interior and has them painted black so I suspect they are supposed to be painted but wanted to ask here first.

Thanks,

I've never seen bare steel, always painted, If the part is visible I'd expect them to the painted.
Hi Paul,
I agree with BB; the hinges were painted interior color. I think this is because you can see the pivot point of the hinge when the doors are closed.
I believe the repacement hinges are ss so they'd be o.k., but the originals were steel so would rust pretty quickly in these nice dry interiors.

Alan
