Looks like a project car and parts mecca to me, I am sure if someone showed up there with $10,000-$12,000 cash they could probably leave with two of them on a trailer.

With a packed lot like that and from what I read he is not moving any inventory cash is king, it's all about the Benjamins!

An enterprising person would buy the lot of C-3s and truck them to the boarder (for example San Ysidro California) hire some cheap labor and have them repaired for resale.

With all due respect, hiring cheap labor to touch these cars is not a good solution, at all, especially the Corvettes. I think Bubba translates into dumb@ss in Spanish as well as English.

We can all speculate and if I could, I'd offer a lump price for the lot to whomever owns the estate to see what can be salvaged or returned to service.

Speculating with all the time required, that would be a fun project to gather a CF crew with all these cars to be shipped into a warehouse to determine the value of each unit.

Guys could come and go as available. Their assistance would make them eligible for a copy of a spreadsheet or report detailing the condition of each car (with pictures, of course).

The truth would be fascinating to discover exactly what condition those frames and birdcages are currently in. The weather can be brutal over time and these babies are in serious need of TLC.

....yes, it is a sad sight. In this day & economy you'll see fewer and fewer of these "project" cars being returned to usable fixed up restored Corvettes.

...sometimes it's better cars are parted out so that other cars live. Sad to think those cars were once new sitting in dealerships waiting to be sold or picked up.

I heard back from a woman at City Hall:

"At this time I do not have a contact. I believe it is in the estate and we are waiting for information."

If I hear anything back from her, I'll let you all know.

I'm picturing the grumpy old guy living in a shack who would use the played out phrases of "I 'd burn the car" or "send it to a scraper" before lowering the insane price he wants for it.

It's almost 9:00 am. I could hit Craigslist right now and by this evening have two solid, decent looking and nice running Corvettes in my driveway for $10K to $12K.

All I see in those pictures are sun bleached cars with interiors that probably look far worse than the exteriors. Most likely rotted frames and birdcages. Engines locked up years ago from sitting. Most parts are probably worth core return value and that's it.

And don't forget to add another 2 years since those pictures were taken and posted here.

Apparently the 45 day rule for reviving old threads doesn't apply here.

Quite honestly, I didn't read all the terms & conditions here. I was doing a Google search when I came across this thread and thought the information about the owner's passing would be helpful to members here. Heck, I am a Mustang guy and wanted to be helpful. So if I broke a precious rule and offended, I apologize.

If the rule is meant to be steadfast, then old threads should be locked down, no?

If I receive information on how these vehicles are going to be sold, should I not post it here?

I didn't know this arcane rule either. Ignorance didn't keep me out of the dog house.

I missed it the first time around, so thanks for bringing it back to life. It's funny how the same people who will yell at you to use the archaic and useless search function to find old threads before asking questions are the same ones who will **** and moan when you bring an old thread back to life. go figure.

I'm diggin this thread and the chat. Thanks Vegas for the update. I already mapquested the seven hour drive... I see potential... If they can be had for cheap, bringing them back to life is what a lot of us here like to do. Of course I prefer driving in em to working on em, but I'm quickly learning how much more enjoyment there is knowing that you resurrected a beauty to the road than just bought her that way.

Hey Vegas, don't sweat this guy. Thanks for sharing and all the leg work you have done, you certainly didn't have too. I already spied the glass T-tops for my 78 and can probably get hem for short $$$$. I would certainly appreciate any further updates. Thanks.

I remember the mods addressing this issue before. If memory serves me, one of em said something to the effect of that if the post is pertinent to the topic, then it's okay. I think they judge things on a case by case basis. I would certainly think that this thread falls under those rules.

Hi everyone,
Yes Jerry Died and the cars are now for sale by his estate. Still priced high, not at fire sale levels yet. I have been looking at these cars rotting for almost 20 years. People have come to his lot to purchase with cash in hand and he refused to sell (too much work to get a car "out") or raised the price on the spot. Crazy...
Anyway here is a link to a group of pistures taken this spring when I was there with a couple of friends. As you can see most of the cars are in the exact same spot as the 2010 pictures on page 1 of this thread. The pictures also make these cars look better that they really are. I know some have been sitting outside uncovered and never moved for 20 years. Some of the cars near the front of the lot have come and gone over the past 10 years or so, but anything two or three cars deep has grown roots.

In this link of all Ryan's pictures from the weekend the corvette pictures are on page 4
http://www.flickr.com/photos/hemipwr...544614/?page=4

someone local stopped by yesterday and got some fresh prices as marked on the windshield:

Non-Corvettes
1977/78 Trans Am, Blue, Auto, $5100
1979 Camaro (had Z28 flares), "Runs", Purple with T-tops, $1900
1981 Firebird with cowl hood and Cragars, Auto, blue, $3600
1984 F100 Shortbed 4x2 with stick, price unknown

Auto Corvettes
1978 $4100
1970's C3 $3500
1969 Widebody (IMSA) $7500
1986 Yellow Vert with a 91+ tail panel $5100
1986 Coupes $4500, $4600, $5200
1976 Black Coupe $4500
Multiple C3's marked at $3500

Manual Vette's
1993 Vert $7100
C3 Burgundy Coupe $4100
C4 86-ish $4500
1991ish Vert $5600

Default contact info for sale of these cars

Ok curiosity got the best of me and since this place is only about 10 minutes from where I work I took a spin up there at lunch today.
Not much has changed since I was there last but things are moving! there were at least 3 cars gone -including the Mach 1 mustang. Most of the cars have prices on them, and maybe 4-5 of them have the word "RUNS" painted on the glass. It looks like someone has been inflating tires on the "outer ring" of cars and in more than one spot while walking the lot I smelled fresh gas. I'm guessing they have been out trying to start some of these cars and get them mobile.
They are also now all numbered with black marker on the windshied - I saw up to #51. On the door is a handwritten sign to call "James" for prices at (309) 574-0320
i'll post the cell phone pics I took below
