Default 68 Roadster 427/400 value?

Thinking about selling my LeMans Blue vert, black interior, black soft top, positraction axle, power windows, and auto transmission. Very clean car - had it appraised 5 years ago when I purchased it and the guy said it was +2. I know the market is depressed, but I have the itch to sell my current RV and move up to a big fifth wheel toy hauler. Also need a 1 ton dually. Hence...I may need to sell the Garage Queen. What do you think?

Thanks!

Hi

To quote a price tag, you need to give more info, like is it a numbers matching car , do you have paperwork, like tanksticker ?
Also is it a survivor or has it been restored, repainted ?
Colors original ?
To bad it is not a AC car. Tripower AC cars seem to fetch higher prices. Also how good is the steel stuff, like chassis, birdcage etc ?

Price can be anywhere between 15 and 75 K.

What was the appraisal figure five years ago? What's a +2 and according to whom?

Post some pics of your '68.

Default '68 427/400 auto convertible value

NADA says $33,075 low retail, $46,305 average retail and $62,100 high retail. Take it for what it is worth...not much.

A yellow 4 speed convertible sold last January at Mecum Kissimmee for $31,500, with side exhaust. No mention of matching numbers or docs.

A silver auto convertible was bid to $57,000 at the same auction. Claimed to be matching numbers and restored in 2006, with tank sticker.

A blue 4 speed convertible sold in November on E-Bay for $27,100. Very original and unrestored, sitting outside in the desert since 1984. Claimed to be matching numbers.

There is a green 4 speed convertible on E-Bay for $42,500 buy it now. Claimed to be matching numbers and no mention of restoration or meaningful docs.

So right here we have a range of $27k to $62k. Gunther's estimate of $15k to $75k probably describes the current range, from project car to NCRS Top Flight or Bloomington Gold. Where does your car stand in that $60k spread? You need to tell us, more than just a 2+ condition opinion from some appraiser 5 years ago.

Is it matching numbers? I've got to imagine the cars mentioned above all must have been to get $27K and up...

OK....VIN 194678S401782 (68E) - no tank sticker. The known history goes back to June 2000 - purchased by an USAF F-16 driver in Clearfield, Utah with 96,975 original miles. He restored it between 2000-2003 and then sold it in 2005 to a gentleman in Yorktown, VA. I bought the car from that owner in May 2006. I'm also in the Air Force and was able to contact the guy who did the restoration. He confirmed what the car was advertised as - numbers matching and that I was buying a solid car. The restoration was frame on and he said the engine was strong and did not need to be rebuilt. I have documentation of the restoration - parts replaced, upgraded, extra parts on hand - and the few things I have done to keep it up. The radio is an aftermarket OEM look-a-like that I kept in the dash and have a new Alpine deck in the rear. I had it appraised back in the summer of 2006 - estimate was 45K private party and mid-50s at auction. Of course, that was 2006. A few blemishes on paint and chrome, but overall a good looking car. I have pics on my gallery to the left and will upload some more. Do you have to be a premium member to post pics in the message itself?

Well so far 2 mirrors is incorrect & the inserts on fenders were 69 only & the front platsic grills should have silver on the leading edges, all black is 69 only as well.

There are many 68's that wear 69 parts because many of the 1968 parts are impossible to find. It looks nice from the outside, but lets see under the hood & details of the dash & interior. maybe you can get a shot of the numbers pad on the motor. What is the redline on the tach ?

If your asking if the right thing to do is to sell the vette to make your purchases then the clear answer to me is NO. The vette no matter what the condition will continue to increase in value even though we are in a down economic period. The vehicles your looking at purchasing in replacement will only go down in value over time. If your asking what to ask price wise for your vette, should you decide to sell it then you need to let us in on many more details about your car. Personally I would try to hold on to the vette because finding someone that is willing to give you what you are going to want will not be an easy thing right now. Those that have money to buy it from you are looking for investments where they can make money on such a deal. In the end the choice is yours and I wish you good luck with your decision.

Still can't figure out how to post pics in the actual message, but below is a link to an album I just created. It should give you a better idea of the car.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/album.php?albumid=14472

Parts have been upgraded from original, to include: floor heat barrier set, leather seats, Pertronix ignition module & coil, aluminum radiator, B & M Supercooler transmission cooler, braided stainless brake lines, aftermarket sound, battery cut-off switch, Dynamax Super-Turbo mufflers, seven blade fan, gas shocks, stainless rally wheel trim rings, inline fuel filter, and others. I have the original fan blade and clutch, telescoping steering column, beauty rings and the right/left half shafts. I have a 3 1/2 page list of parts that were replaced and a stack of receipts for those.

I understand this car is not ready for NCRS judging, and yes, it should hold its value better than an RV. All I am looking for is a realistic expectation of what this car could fetch in today's market - and the best venue to market it (EBay?).

Thanks for your input.

There are many incorrect parts on that car, as stated before in your post & my previous, i'll add to what i see, radio, center gauge cluster is a 69 with pebble grain, wood grain added though easily removed, smog is missing, I cant see the center console because of the padded cushion, 68 should have cut outs for the seat belts, exhaust, no mention or photos of the pad so i'm uncertain if it's numbers matching or not. No mention of any documentation, no info from the trim tag, so I wont comment on a gustimate of true value, but on the LOW end I would gustimate $25,000

SIXPACK,

I need to find a better way to photograph my stamp pad and other tight spots - as the pics/numbers are not legible. T0906IO and 18S401782 for the pad. Trim tab is C11 STD 976. The Intake casting number is 3919850. VIN on the pillar is 194678S401782.

What are the big ticket items (as far as numbers/codes) that I need to show via pictures if I decide to put this for auction on EBay or some other site? I know the car is not 100% 'correct' and would take some work to make it show ready - the body panels are not perfectly aligned and the other items you mention. But I think the basics are there - numbers matching big block in excellent condition.
