Default Darn!

I pulled the fuel tank yesterday and...

nothing! There was a lot of grass and hay up on top though. If there was a build sheet there the mice that made a home there must have chewed it up. I was tempted to sift through debris looking for bits of paper but I figured that would just depress me more. That's the problem with a barn find. Corvettes are not the only things found in barns! I have found build sheets on top of the instrument console and under carpets in customers cars so I will not give up hope yet.

I never found mine on my 73 either, there was a bit of paper pieces under the strap that was about the width of the strap and look like a few sheets of paper mache all stuck together. I am assuming that was all that was left of my build sheet.

Thats to bad. I feel your pain. I droped my tank two weeks ago and a third of the sheet was still there, but was really wanting (wishing) the whole sheet would still be intact. I know that was wishfull thinking but thats the way it goes. I too hope another sheet will be hidden under the carpet or somewhere inside the car cause the under side of the car is out of hidding spots to find one.
Now if I can just get my lower back problem fixed, I can get back to work on this car.

The previous owner of mine replaced the tank and didn't put the build sheet back.

mine wasn't bare, but it just as well could have been. it was there and you could see there was something originally printed on it, but certainly nothing legible. it was virtually 98% a clean sheet of old paper

You know they did place build sheets in other places.....you might get lucky and find one up under the dash or one of the seats.

Lucky is the key word. Copies of build sheets have been found tucked in the wiring behind the speedo/tach; tucked in the wiring behind the center cluster; behind either kick panel; tucked in the springs under a seat; and under the carpet in the rear storage area. A few copies have been found folded between the rear spring and mount but these would not have lasted long.

Good luck with the hunt.

Talk about dumb luck... 3 weeks ago I too was disappointed about not finding my build sheet on the fuel tank, however, 1 week later, it popped out of the frame rails when blowing out loose dirt/rust. Birth certificate revealed.

yes, i've heard that, but i guess i am just SOL as i have stripped the interior down to the firewall and the walls for a complete redo if all the interior parts, nothing was stuck anywhere. there was nothing behind the panels, nothing inside the doors, nothing in the dash harness or under the carpeting anywhere, nor in the seats either bottoms or backs. i guess it is a quest that will never be accomplished in my case.
