Anyone ever just touch up there center gauge console - I was thinking about taking it out and spraying it.. but there are just a couple of places that need to painted..
Has anyone just got some black paint and did a little touch up to it?? Is so.. what did you use..
The "silver strip" is chrome plating, use masking tape and tape it off and trim with an x-acto knife. I usually sandblast then and repaint. Pull the tape off and PERFECTO!!!! If any errant paint just take the tip of the x-acto blade and scrape from the chrome (and no, won't hurt the chrome, unless you press real hard, just use blade at angle and scrape).
OR, if your touch up isn't bad, use a black Sharpee

if it's just a few little nicks that would be fine but any more than that the dots will stand out like a sore thumb. Trust me on that. I gave up and just repainted all of mine. I used Semi-gloss trim paint
I used a small fine point hobby paint brush and Krylon satin black paint.
I was touching up small chips and when I was done, it's virtually unnoticeable.

I used Krylon semiflat black spraycan, sprayed the entire thing. Once good and dry I took a soft cloth and used laquer thinner to clean off the chrome accents. Worked great.
Hi,
I still vote for painting the whole bezel and then as soon as the paint 'flashes' use a new x-acto blade to slice the paint off the top surface of the chrome trim. It comes off in long 'strings'.
When I tried tape I always ended up with too thick an edge on the paint.
Regards,
Alan

My 77 is not chrome plated... it looks more like silver paint because it's rubbed off everywhere
