Nick-

it's funny but the picture of the fillers we have on the site and posted above are from the backside.. I think if they were shot from the front side it would help.

I will say, this thread has been interesting. What I've noticed in looking at cars in the shop and used originals is that some only have 1 screw holding them in place.. I have two cars in the shop this way.. The blue one used in the picture above and a 78. The one in the pic above had the holes for both screws, one is broken off. But the 78 has the holes for the screws and just no screws.... Odd.. I'll have to pay attention to other cars that come in for this.

So do you think that I need to replace the windshield/fender fillers on my car? I have no idea if they were ever there as I bought the car from someone else and the part I described is what was on it. I will try to get some better pictures in the day time of the area. I don't know if I should go messing with it if it is sealed up good.

If the brackets for the lower windshield are what you desire the only way you will get them is to purchase the part that I've been talking about since the first post. The fillers have this made in to them.

Well mine must be an oddball,
very early 75 with fiberglass floors.
Had the cowl down to bare metal and fiberglass when the windshield was out and there was only 1 hole, but the diverter was under the original windshield corner.
My 77 had the 2 hole listed.
What are the parts you show made of?

Noonie,

They are a rubber filler and have a metal insert inside them. The rubber is kind of thick for the area where the windshield is supposed to rest on top of it.

I'll check the s/n of the car in the shop... maybe there is a variance that I'm not aware of.

The funny thing is I have a 74 firewall here and it has the same ones that are in my picture.

My car is a 75 with fiberglass floors as well. Another thing I have found is that the upper windshield moulding clips are not screwed into the upper windshield frame. The only ones that are secured with a screw are at the corners with the upper corner trim. Many people told me that they should be screw holes along the top but I had it down to bare metal and found no holes or signs of where holes were filled. According to the AIM, these clips were held in place via the cross bar trim.

Well I ordered the fillers a bit ago so we'll see how it goes and what I find. I also have some flat stainless steel just in case the fillers won't work. Do you put adhesive/sealant on the back side of the fillers?

I did find the filler in the 75 AIM but it looks a little different from the other pictures posted on this thread. Also, they show only one hold for attaching it. Just wanted to share this in case anyone else comes across this thread looking for the same info.

Got the filler assembly in today from Willcox and it appears that I would have to drill new holes in order to make them work. As I have stated previously, there is only one hole and the filler won't sit right using the hole that is already there. I think I will just go ahead and use the flat stock I have and make the bracket I removed from the car. Don't see any reason to drill two new holes and plug the old one and open up another area for water to leak in and rust the birdcage.

Those diverters are supposed to keep water from running down into the hinge area and also to keep water away from the upper fender bonding support. That support was only riveted to the metal and traps water behind it and rusts the birdcage and then the #2 bolt area.
The rubber piece was just a bad idea, all it really did was trap dirt and debris and create more problems.
I didn't use them and sanded and prepped the crack area as best I could and used a flex sealant the painted. At least the water and dirt will run off and not get trapped behind the bonding support.
