There are brackets along the bottom left and right sides of the windshield on my 75. Does anyone repro them or do you have to find them at a salvage yard? If you can make them, please let me know how long they are and where the 90 degree bend is. Thanks
On the outer edges of the lower section of glass you should have two rubber weatherstrips. Inside this weatherstrip is a placement metal bracket for using when setting the windshield.
I'm talking about the L shaped bracket that sits at the bottom left and right corners of the windshield that the glass sits on. If my memory serves me correctly, it seems like they had some type of rubber coating on the end that the windshield sits on.
Hi t,
I think this is what you're asking about.
I don't think I've seen them available new but I'm sure the various Corvette yards have them.

Alan
That's what I'm talking about Alan. Mine did not look like that probably were lost or broken sometime. Mine looked more like a 2" piece of metal bent to 90 degrees. Are these needed to install the windshield since there is the center rest also?
I bought some flat stock aluminum to do mine on the 71. I used the ones off the 71 to put on the 72 when the new windshield was put in last week. I also bought a can of rubber dip to coat them. Both pieces came from Lowes.
In 1973 the bracket was moved inside the lower filler weatherstrip. This part bolts to the cowl and yes, the windshield does sit on top of it.
1968-1972 cars the bracket was as Alan showed in his picture. I have several cars in the shop that I can take a picture of, but this is the part you need.

Mine is for a 75 coupe. Could you send me some pics of the part along with the length and where the bend is? Thanks
Hi t,
The bracket in the center is called the wiper stop.
Can you do without the windshield brackets? Up to you!
You can bet that if Chevrolet could have not used them, and saved 25 cents per car, they would have done away with them.

Alan

I guess I can do this.. but the bracket is inside the part shown above in my picture. There are two screws that hold this to the firewall and the windshield sits on top of it.
I think it might be best just to take a picture of the filler weatherstrip above installed on the car, then you'll understand what I'm trying to say.
There really is no measuring the actual bracket it is covered with rubber.
Here are a few pics of the cowl area on my car. The screw you see is where the bracket I am describing would be attached. The screw would go through the lower vertical part of the bracket and just up from it, there would be a 90 degree bend(toward the front of the car) where the windshield would sit on it.

I'm always amazed at the level of restoration on your Vette Alan!
If not, then post again and I'll go out in the shop Froday and take you a picture...
But it will show you the same thing..
The windshield sits on top of the rubber.. which has the bracket you can not find anywhere hid inside it.. This is why you can't find it.. Look at your firewall.. you'll find not one but two holes.
On my 75 with original windshield the stops aren't bent, but just straight with rubber on the top 1/2 inch and with only 1 hole. The windshield just butts down to it. Originally the rubber diverter that goes under the windshield corner, may have been attached to it, but it doesn't look like it.
I didn't reinstall the rubber diverter but did caulk the triangular fender mount to the cowl (where water usually causes rust).
The lower hole was for the leaf screen only, also just 1 hole.
Stops are approx 3/4"wide x 1-1//4" long (by memory)

I did go out and look at my cowl area again and only found 1 hole where the bracket was attached. Do you think that a PO could have removed the fender/winshield fillers and just used seam sealer? I had the cowl redone when my car was painted so I don't know what is under the textured paint they applied but he did use seam sealer.

Hold on and I'll clear all this up... besides the missing hole.. I just went out to the shop and took good pictures of two different cars 1975 and a 1979.
Ok... last post on this and I hope this clears it up.. I've checked cars in our shop 1975 1978 and 1979, don't have a 73 or 74 to check so someone else maybe able to verify the same...
But, the two pictures both so conclusively that what I've posted above is correct.
Now.. it is very common for the rubber to be gone off the bracket made in it!
