Default Spare Tire Lock Boot

Any good ideas out there on how I can install a new spare tire lock boot onto the lock assembly? Seems like something will have to get s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d a long way to get ovre the lock assembly and I don't want to tear the rubber boot.

Anyone done it before? Boot and lock are for a 1968.

I've done it but it has been a long time. I think I just ran it under some hot water gave it a shot of silicone and went at it.

if i remember correctly when i did mine, i used a hair blower to provide a bit of heat to it to make it a bit more pliable and then just stretched it over the lock. seems i remember it being harder than i thought it would be.

Hi,
I agree that warming the boot first allows you to slip it on without tearing it.

Alan

I have a heat gun which works great, but hair dryer can also work. I would think that the hot water method would also make the boot much more softer and pliable.

Used these same methods on the plastic/rubber seat belt covers to slip them over the metal end piece.

If I recall I softened it Also I turned it partly inside out which made it a lot easier.
