I have a set of TTIIs that I need to clean up and I bought one of those little ball rag type polishers that you chuck up in a drill that is made for rims.
My question is twofold.
Are the TTIIs polished aluminum without any coating?
What brand/type of polish should I use with a hand held cordless drill and the polishing ball?
The TTIIs are not coated when they come from American Racing.
There are several aluminum cleaners that will work well and sometimes it comes down to personal preference. As stated above Mother's and Flitz but there is also Simichrome, Blue Majic, Meguiars, 3M, Wenol, and the list goes on and on. How bad are the wheels? If they are just dull this stuff works great and no drill needed. http://www.nevrdull.com/
If I didn't polish my wheels, I'd have nasty water spots just from washing the car. I've used Wenol, Mothers, and several others and Flitz has worked the best for me...
I use Mothere's...but, I believe there all somewhat equivalent. The key is...and I read this tip on this forum a numer of year ago....simply wipe them off when you get home. So I polish them at the beginnng of the season and wipe them off when we get back....to this day...they look like new! Muddy
I was told once by someone that they clean theirs with mineral spirits and they look just like new again. Anyone ever try this on their wheels?
That is how the "Brooklyn Ball Buster " polish is made, they dissolve buffing compounds in mineral spirits and trust me when I say it is the best. It was developed to do trucks and it works like you wouldn't believe!!!!
I have had really good luck with Mothers and back in the day I would use Blue magic, the later took some elbow grease but they sure looked good. I also think the trick to keeping them looking great is to wipe them off whenever you get it in the garage after a day out and especially right after they get wet. The water spots really stain them quickly.
