Depending on the year, I do believe, they also had a part number stamped on them, but I might be mistaken.

Only service spares had part numbers on them, assembly line pieces did not.

Hi,
I agree that the SS material is the first indication of aftermarket/ reproduction tips.
Richard Fortier who began Paragon Corvette Reproductions is reproducing 2 tips consistent with the first two variations of 70-73 production line tips. They are very pricey compared to the ss reproductions available, but are a real work of art. They prove that some people can get their reproductions right.
Regards,
Alan

Did a search for exhaust tips (extensions) for 70-72 at Corvette America, all I could find was the standard stainless steel ones...

i can't think off hand of any recent GM part without a part number on it even if it is a label (which would be there if it was NOS)

Hi U4,
You can buy the tips I described directly from Richard Fortier; and I believe Corvette Central and Ecklers sell them too.
You need to be laying down when you see the price.
Regards,
Ala

NCRS doesn't show part #s on the exhaust tips for 73/74 they say later designs have spot welds on the rectagular portion and/or part numbers. Neither of these features is correct for prodution line installation
