Happy Birthday to your vette Alan. Congratulations.
Regarding all the date coded items you documented on your car, did you run across the date codes on the seat belt anchor plate under the body and the fuel tank sending unit date code? I get real stupid when I fine numbers on my car and pull out the camera and take a ton of pictures.
BTW; I like the brake & clutch plastic covers on the peddles in the picture of the interior. I'll have to remember that.

Very nice car. Hard to believe people can like something sooooo much they keep it for 40 years. It nice to see someone can actually care about a car like that for such a long time in a world where people replace things every 2 or 3 years if not less.
hi ALLAN, i also never knew you bought this car new. i know a guy with a 68 that bought it new but its far from original with all the mods he made since 68. your vette is amazing like you. do you have a pic of whole car you can post? would love to see it if not too much trouble. thanks, NUTSY.
The car has only spent a couple nights out of a garage in all 40 years.
Alan,
With respect, does that mean that you do not drive the car? If yes, that would be a shame.
Well, if he drove it 40,000 miles in the first 2 years, and it now has 46,000 miles, I would guess he has driven it 6000 miles in the last 38 years. It also sounds like he was restoring it from 1992-2007, so I'm guessing he didn't drive it at all during that time.
My present vette has never spent a night out of the garage in the 2 1/2 years I have owned it, and I drive it 1,000-2,000 miles per year. I'm sure that someday it will spend a night outdoors when I take it on an overnight trip, it just hasn't happened yet. Probably won't happen until my kids go to college.
Alan: Happy Birthday to your car! As always, I am in awe of the quality of your work!
Congratulations Alan. What can I say that others haven't? Respectful, knowledgeable, craftsmanship, helpful, witty, kind, thoughtful and a perfect example of what we all should emulate here on the forum and in our daily lives.
Hi Paul,
Even before I bought the Corvette I rented a garage just across the yard from my apartment. So on the day I bought the Corvette I took the 68 GTO out of the garage in the morning and never even dreamed a Corvette would be coming home that evening.
As I remember, the only nights it slept outside were when my future wife and I went on vacation to Cape Cod during the summer of 71 and then on our honeymoon in November of 72.
After that it always back home by the evening.
Since I drove it so much the first 2 years I've not felt that I need to drive it for pleasure. The pleasure is finally having it be what I wished it had been when it left St. Louis.
Thanks for your comments.
Regards,
Alan

I respect that decision. That is your choice. I drive.
