I was impressed with his clean, orderly shop! I'm thinking-Great! I've finally found a good Vette mechanic.
He took the car for a spin and determined that the rear spring and shocks need replacing (no surprise). Also needs brake work.I told him I wanted to get the rear and body bushings and I think the clunky snubber bushing redone anyway.
I told him I wanted to replace all with rubber VS poly, as I've heard a lot of rough ride stories with poly.
He has been -working on -racing -and restoring (high dollar) Vetts ONLY for 37 years. --He's mostly an original/ correct type guy.
He wants me to use poly. Says "The car rides on SPRINGS and SHOCKS -NOT bushings". And also, "You want little GIVE in these parts".
OK, this sounds logical to me, but I think at least the rear end front snubber bushing should be rubber.

OPINIONS please.
Sorry I asked ? Maybe I should flip a coin. It is however a 165hp driver. This being obvious to the mechanic just made me wonder why he pushed poly.

.....Thanks, I respect alls opinions

Oh well, that's what the poly-pushers count on anyway.
Correct, a rubber bushing works on shear. Even modern cars use rubber all around. There are good technical reasons for as I explained earlier.

If firmness in the bushing is required, one could just as easy go to steel bushings with a thin delrin or other kind of insert.. Did you ever ask yourself why this is not the case ?

Ask yourself the question why delrin kits à la Global West cost so much.

My personal experience was that poly control arm bushings worked fine except for an occasional squeak. But when I later replaced the differential snubber with poly I started getting a slightly noticeable but highly objectional vibration that you can feel in the seat of your pants at certain speeds. THAT piece should be left stock rubber for sure, unless you've got a perfectly balanced drive shaft maybe.

I understand rubber bushings better now.
So, bear with me, if you're using a poly bushing for the control arms and they aren't twisting in the right direction, what's being overloaded?
Obviously the control arm isn't being prevented from moving up and down, so is it the bolt? the bolt holes in the frame?
Or is it limiting the camber change some what?
