Wow- it took 10 posts for somebody to come up with a conspiracy theory. That usually happens by post 5.
I'll tell you a little secret that is supposed to be only for us insider master judges- you can go to a ribbon manufacturing place and get them to make you a bogus blue one for about 20 bucks. Then you can photoshop a certificate and put your own name on it for only a couple hours time.
This is much simpler and cheaper than dealing with us evil judges and our secret handshakes and winks that keep you from getting your hard earned award.
Talk about sour grapes
It's really quite simple....put the car back to factory. If you don't know how or why...there is plenty of documentation that you can purchase from NCRS to do so.
In regards to our LT-1... I intend to have it judged by NCRS, but when I do so...she will be ready to acquire Top Flight! Reason being... I simply did my home work! Muddy
I too agree you should be very well prepared if going to run you car thru NCRS judging. You need the manuals to do it right then you won't have these unpleasent suprises. I enjoyed the process knowing I had previously checked everything on my car I could for correctness, the condition is what I think is left to the judges discreation and experience. I would use your judging sheets and pick what gets you the biggest bang for your buck. I could have put in a restorer battery in for $400.00 and get like 45 points or just put in a Delco battery for $75.00 and get like 20 or 25 points and spend more time on other little things, same with $1500.00 worth of tires for fulll points or take a half points hit and get service replacements. I haven't had mine judged in over a year because I am doing the little thing to pickup a few points at a time, it takes longer but if I can get enough done it will payoff. You can always spend BIG BUCKS and get big jumps in your score but I like to tinker with the small stuff it's much easier on the wallet and more fun learning about the car. I understand BC/CC is OK with NCRS but you can't have the seems and frames and other areas so glossy that they have a mirror finish. It looks nice but not what you would expect to get from the factory, it all about originality atleast in apperance. Just my opinion FWIW.
I'll be glad to repeat the story of the infamous 'Kissimmee Foot Kicker' next Friday or Saturday if anybody is going to be there.
I'll be there and would love to meet the "ultimate defender" of the great organization!

Well said!
I once read a friends words "It's a game I choose to play".
Anyway, the experience was both amazing and frustrating. I have a lenghty punch list of things to address before the next NCRS judging in the area.
The best part of this is every one of your "peers" got graded by the same list. If it was easy and any Corvette off the street could pass with flying colors.......what fun would it be?
Go for it!

Jeeze and I get crap from the NCRS guys for putting up with the abuse here. Ya can't win. Look for the Vetteheads spot in the swap meet along the back fence.
Hi,
Here's a couple of pictures of the NCRS, Mason Dixon Chapter's fall judging meet. IT REALLY DOESN'T LOOK LIKE TORTURE! Coffee, donuts, pizza, and old Corvettes. Not a bad way to spend a day.
I had the pleasure of helping to judge a car that belongs to someone I knew but hadn't seen in 35 years.
Regards,
Alan

When I was building my first vette I joined the local NCRS chapter and spent time at the workshops and other events. We all joined in to help each other and had a wonderful time. It took three years to finish the car but it got a Top Flight award when we were done. Judging day was the most wonderful awful day you could ever imagine. Sold the car but I met a lot of people that will be friends for the rest of my life because of that car. Wouldn't change or trade for any of it.
If you want a specific award get involved and let lots of people look at your car. Then take that judging manual and put each line item in an Excel sheet. Sort it by point value and decide if you are willing to spend the money on the points.
For me the people were worth far more than the award.
