Before I tear into my Tilt column ithought I would post to get ideas from folks here. When I remove my key from the ignition switch, with th edoor open the buzzer continues to buzz....if I wiggle the key a bit sometimes it will go out...the car is an Auto with tilt...any ideas on what has happened? How doe sone repair it? Thanks for your help.

Most likely a worn/bad reed switch inside the column/ignition switch. It's a headach to change, but it can be done. There are different design replacement switches, so you need to know which will replace what you have. Jim_Shea has write-ups on-line that will explain the process. Send him a PM to request the correct paper(s).

From the key wiggle angle, it would seem that your problem is either the lock cylinder or the key buzzer switch. There is a small plastic key buzzer tab the extends out of the lock cylinder when the key is inserted into the lock cylinder and the cylinder is in OFF or OFF-LOCK. That tab should easily slide back into the cylinder when you remove the key or twist the key to the RUN position.

It could be that gunk has accumulated through the years and the tab no longer slides back into the lock cylinder.
You can try some silicone lubricant to clean and lubricate the lock cylinder before tearing into the column head.

If that doesn't work then the next thing to do would be to remove the steering wheel, remove the locking plate, pull the turn signal switch out of the column head just far enough to get at the lock cylinder and the key buzzer unit.

Here are the complete instructions on the above procedure.

Ignition lock cylinders (with keys) are readily available. Key buzzer switches for 1969-76 T&T columns have now been reproduced and are available through most Corvette suppliers.
