Default Hood question

Could anyone let me know the difference between an 80's hood and a 69 hood?

My car is a 69 and has an 80's front clip installed, i've heard that the 80's hood currently on the car will still fit if I change the clip to a 69 one? True?

Been told the size is the same but only the latches differ, which isn't actually a problem.

Hi b,
The difference will be in the length of the hood... the 69 is shorter because of the wiper grill and wiper door on the 69.

Alan

But assuming that he's not putting the wiper drill, and door back on - wouldn't it fit correctly? Wouldn't this be the same as someone with a 69 -> 72 who decides to put on a long hood?

Without a wiper door and grill, the hood will "sort of" fit the 69 nose.

As mashman said, it's just like using any other long hood. The hood opening and contours of the fender top surround, are the same. The "sort of" comes in where the rear corners of the hood, meet the 69 fender tops at the windshield. The 68-72 fenders had a molding on them, that met a molding on the wiper door. The 73-82 cars didn't have the wiper door or the moldings, so the rear edge of the hood, and the fender ends at the windshield, flaired upward. Because of the moldings, the 69 fenders are flat on top and don't line up with the flaired back corners of the 80 hood.

You also need to use the to hood latches from the 80, as 69 latches can't be used on an 80 hood.

If you are going to the expense and effort to put the correct nose on, why not put the right hood on too?

Doesnt seem worth doing if you end up with a hood that looks as wrong as that.
