Default 1969 J14 build code

1969 J14 build code how does this code tell me a build date ? Wasn't this during the strike period? Is this a possible build code for a '69?

According to the 1969 Stingray Guidebook by Rick Bizzoco, page 2, the trim tag code of J (for May) is shown as UAW Strike.

That is what I thought, so if I understand that correctly - no '69s were built during that time frame?

J14 should be May 14, 1969, and supposedly, no Corvettes were built in May?

What is the VIN number of your car, and what are some of the other dates (engine build, block, intake, trans, etc.)?

It could be just a mistake on the trim tag. Other cars have been found to have mistakes on tags.

I looked at a project that a local guy recently purchased. I don't have any other numbers but when I seen the trim tag date code it threw up a flag to me. I thought maybe his trim tag had been replaced because of the date.

Hi v,
The final serial number for April was 721315, for June it was 723374; it would be interesting to know the # for the car you looked at.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks guys. I will try to find out that VIN. I doubt the guy will be to worried about it since it doesn't have the motor or transmission but I was curious about it.

Maybe it's not a 69. Hard to believe someone would go to the trouble of replacing the trim tag with an impossible code... unless he had a spare lying around.

4/10/69 Strike began. Covered eight weeks; affected production for 10 weeks

8/4/69 ’69 production resumed following a week of inventory

Are you 100% certain you have a J?

I just got back from looking at the car again. The owner does not want me to put his VIN here on the forum. I took the Corvette Black Book with me and the 6th digit of the VIN is a 9 (indicating a 1969). I looked at the body tag again.. it does say J14.
