Undocumented Pace Car? You make it sound like it might be a fake Pace Car. The car is the 2083rd Pace Car built. The "9" after the "S" indicates it is a Pace Car.
You have to remember, or have been around, the Pace Car Mania of the time. When these were announced, there were only going to be like 100, then maybe 300. The other 6000 dealers screamed and suddenly, there were 6502 built. People paid well over the list price of $13,600 to $15,000, depending on options, often doubling and tripling the sticker.
Many dealers held onto theirs, trying to get top dollar, and many lawsuits came about from people who ordered on and then the dealers reneged on the orders.
So buying one new in December, 7 months later, isn't as odd as you'd think. And many who bought new didn't title them, keeping them on the MSO until they sold them so the second owner could claim to be the original owner.
