Default HVLP sprayers

Can I go with this or a similar priced model for a complete car repaint or not? All I have now is a Craftsman 1 (or 2) hp compressor which I know is no good for HVLP. Thanks. This has a list of $365.

Unless you intend to do the entire strip/repair/surface and repaint by hand, using your current compressor only to blow the dust off the car and yourself before you call it quits for the night, you will still need a larger compressor to do your car properly. I understand the desire to minimize investment especially since a compressor spends so much time just sitting in the corner, but you really need a 5HP or better to try this and succeed... unless you have 300 hours to do it in and want Schwarzenegger like arms at the end.

Consider this... spend about a grand on a compressor, a decent (not top flight) gun and an air dryer, add a pistol grip grinder, die grinder and a DA. Spend another grand or somewhat less on materials and tell your wife you just saved $3000 on your paint job (at least) by doing it yourself. If she (or you) think I'm wrong on my price, stop by a couple local shops and get a few free estimates. Doing this right at home is really way less money than farming it out even if you have to buy every tool required up front!

The OP is asking if he can produce a quality job with the compressor less HVLP system in his link - he knows his compressor is inadequate for the job.

I've never used one of those systems, you might have better luck in the 'paint and body' section - as this is not really a C3 issue, and the real paint pros hang out there.

I suppose if the car is paint ready... stripped, repaired, primed and wet sanded to perfection then certainly the system shown; or one similar might be used to apply a finish to the car. If the "off the gun" result were less than hoped for, the car could then be wet sanded and buffed which would likely occur no matter what method was used to apply the finish. However, the probability of a satisfactory result increases exponentially when a craftsperson uses tools and techniques best suited to the task at hand; instead of attempting to "make do".

I don't believe I'd attempt to shoot 1K worth of materials and more importantly hundereds of hours on prep on the rig your showing! JMHO

I purchased a HVLP Sata NR2000...this gun, localy was 700+, I found it on the net for like 450! I was able to skimp on my compressor by finding another 2nd smaller unit so as to Y both of them together to acquire the 12 CFM that the Sata requires.

Wish now...that I would have gone ahead and found a larger compressor (still looking) due to...since the vette shoot, I've painted 2 boats (sailboats) and my Tacoma tailgate that I managed to crunch.!

Good luck...nothing more satisfying than driving down the road in your own paint. Muddy

If you use a cheap gun, plan to spray 4 coats of clear so you can cut all of the orange peel.

You can do it with a 10 gallon compressor. I've done a boat with a 10 gallon, tried to use a 5 gallon and it wasn't even enough for a surfboard.

If you're willing to spend $400 you should buy a Sata gun and just rent or borrow a compressor.
