So I have seen a few vette's here that are a convertable, but also have a hard top you can put on. Is that something that was original, or is that clever people customizing?
Also, the optional hardtop could be had with optional black vinyl. So if you see a convertible with a hardtop in matching body color, or in black vinyl, it could be original equipment.
See how this BLUE corvette is wearing a WHITE hardtop? My corvette came with a hardtop, but apparently not THIS hardtop - which did come from a 1968 (white) corvette.
Also, in 69 an additional hold down bolt was added in the center of the decklid. If a convertible has this hole in the decklid, it means that it originally came with a hardtop.
If you don't have this hole in the decklid, you can still add a hardtop, you just need to remove the center bolt from the hardtop.

So now I feel kinda dumb. So the soft top dosent fold down? It is one peice that you take off as such? How do you transport it?
Hi s,
The soft top DID fold down, backwards.
The deck lid behind the seats opened, (hinged at the back), the top was lowered, and then the deck lid was closed.
A VERY nice clean look.
Regards,
Alan
The soft top is also called "folding top" or even convertible top. Release the latch hardware, pull up the rear bow, open the decklid, and the folding top will go down into the rear storage area behind the seats. Close the deck lid and you're set for top down cruising.
The folding top for convertibles was included with the base price of the convertible and did not cost anything extra. You could ask for white, black, or (for some model years) tan vinyl top color.
The removable hardtop for convertibles was always optional (C07). You paid extra to get it. It was painted the same color as the exterior of the car unless you paid extra for the optional black vinyl trim (C08).
You could order the hardtop and ask that the folding top be deleted. The car would be delivered with only the hard top and you got a credit toward the sticker price of your new Corvette.

AH got it. One more question, could you have a convertable that was a fold down, and get a hard top and put it on while the soft top was folded down?
