Hello from the proud new owner of a 68
I had a 2 corvette's 25 years ago before I started my family. I sold them off 1 at a time as we needed money. I heard the old "don't worry you can get another one some day" from my wife.
I'm a home improvement contractor and I spend alot of time on the road. One day I was on my way home from a job and I saw this car on the side of the road for sale in mid summer 2010. It was parked right in front of a house that I had did some work on 15 or more years ago. I stopped and introduced myself and looked the car over and it looked great. This is a garage kept 40,783 mile unrestored orginal owner car. I wanted it so bad but the seller wanted $25,000 (more than I could come up with.) A few months went by and the seller contacted me with a barter offer, remodel a bathroom, Install a new front door and and build a roof over the front door. I kept this deal a secret until all the work was done. I was driving the car in the garage when my cell phone rings and it was my wife asking who's car? LOL After sleeping on the couch for a couple of nights everything seems to be getting back to normal. I will post some pictures as soon as I figure out how to do so.

Martin,
Same exact story here. Bought one with her permission, tore it apart doing a resto. Bought the second one with her permission but she was less than thrilled because the first one was still in pieces. Then ran accross a 78 for 2500 bucks from a distant family member and she drew the line. It killed me to let that one pass by. I even contemplated buying it and hiding it for a while but like I said, it was a family member and you know the rest of the story.......... Besides I spend enough time on the couch as it is . Anyway, now she wants a new Camaro too.

Congratulations and welcome to the '68 club. Check out the recent '68 photo spread. A lot of great '68's on here and all the members have been knowledgeable, friendly gentlemen.
As a side note....I am a plumber...used to be a chef with 5 restaurants...lost the restaurants as well as my 1980 coupe. Never thought I'd get another one. Well, after a long and difficult road back to financial security wife got me my '68 convertible for my 50th birthday last year. Pretty sweet girl 'eh?
Nothing wrong with a few nights in the doghouse. Do what me and my brother did and get some cable TV in there!

Welcome to the forum and great story...the old "better to ask for forgiveness than permission" routine. I know it well because it has worked for me thru a couple of Harleys, a boat and now the vette. She'll get over it...eventually. When I started tearing mine apart, the wife even told me that she was glad I had a hobby to keep me busy! If you decide to keep track of what you spend on the car, DO NOT EVER let your wife know how much...ask me how I know this.
Did anybody tell you we need pictures?
