Default Starter problem

Having intermittent starting problems with my 74. I've changed the starter out two times and still getting periodic dead connection to the starter. The wires are tight on the starter post but when i wiggle the wires around, sometimes it'll start. Any ideas?

Change the battery cables. Both the short ground to the frame and the long positive to the starter. I did mine about 5 years ago. PITA to do but worth it. They break down internally and cause all kinds of intermittent electrical issues.

Sounds like the ignition switch located at the bottom of the steering column needs to be replaced.

I'm not sure about the 74, but the 80-82's have a large connector that connects the wiring harness to the starter wires before they go to the starter. It's up near the top of the engine on the passanger side. If that connector is corroded or isn't makeing a good connection, you'll get the problems you're describing.
