OK, so what are the major differences between the atomatics and the manual transmissions? I am looking to buy a finished 69 and I am debating a auto or manual. because of the era I am leaning towards a manual. Does one offer more performance? I would think that you would potentially have more problems with the auto. Thoughts?
have you ever been in a old car? if you don't know the difference between an auto and a manual you might want to do some reading on cars in general. hang around some old timers in your area that fools with cars. go to local car shows a talk to some people. a 69 will not drive anything what you are use to.
A 4-speed just feels much more like you're driving a sports car. You have more control of the car when you're driving on back country twisty roads and which gear you want to be in as you come out of a turn. I feel you're more in touch and are working the car than an auto.
It's also way more fun!
Some prefer auto's, but for a vette, personally it's always going to be a manual. Jusy my 2c.

your girlfriend or wife won't know how to drive it, in fact, lots of today's generation kids don't know how to use a clutch.. so it will be all yours and no one will ask you to drive it.
kids today won't steal my car and take it for a joy ride, they don't know how to drive it.

I would have to disagree with that. My wife just loves driving a manual. She has a Cobra R and just ripps through the gears. She has absolutly no problem driving the Vette also. As for the OP. When was the last time you drove a manual? Do you live in the city or sub's or country? Downtown city driving a manual can get really old fast. Al

I went with a 700R4 for my 76. However, I'd go stick with a 5 speed kit. I don't want to spend the money now, but I do wish mine was a stick.
