hi, i have a 71 coupe. while looking to find out what the rear axle ratio is i found out the numbers on it go to a 70 corvette according to "corvette-world.com". is it possible that it is the original or more likely changed out sometime over the years? thanks, keith
Hi Keith,
Mike's right, you need to remember that many 71 cars can easily have parts from 1970 on them. The part's date indicate when it was made or assembled, not the model year of the car it was intended for.
The part numbers, casting dates, and stamped information all help show that the part may or may not be typical for the build date of your car.
What stamped information did you find?
Regards,
Alan
1971 model year production began in calendar year 1970. Your differential might be stock.
About September 15, 1970, St. Louis was shut down for a strike which lasted almost through November. Production did not resume until just before Thanksgiving. There are no October built 71s, and not many November cars. Because of the strike, you can run across out of ordinary date codes for the early 71s.
