Default 77 trans change

Hello to all as I have just bought my first vett. A 1977 with an automatic trans. I would like to change it to a 5 spd manual but as I live in England parts are hard to come by. So my question is what car would make a good donor car to get a trans out of that would fit my car. Other than that as worst case what trans should I look for in the USA. I think this option would be expensive for shipping but if I must then I will. Any help in this area would be very greatful. Thank you LOU

I have converted many C3 autos to 5 speeds and two of them were 77 cars. The toughest thing is the pedals. You have to remove the pedal box and put in the manual trans pedals. You already have a removeable cross member which makes it a lot easier. Some have used a T5 trans in mild applications. If you are running some more HP and are planning on some abuse you might want to step up to a tougher trans. I have always installed the kits from some of the vendors here. The yare complete and have everything. Yes they are pricey but everything is there.

Thank you to who has replied so far but after a little searching I am finding auto trans camaros mid 80s to 2005. What year cars would work in such an older car like mine. I am not planning to race my car or even do big power upgrades. I just want to enjoy driving it without it revving through the roof all the time as I drive 60 or higher more time than 30s. I prefer a manual but if I must a 4 or 5 speed auto would work at least temporary while I look for what I really want. Thank you for your info

Have you seen these?

Complete bolt in kit I believe. Check out their website and gather as much info as you can. I think Tremec also has a kit.

you are looking at the 4 spd overdrive transmissions in those and with the over drive its like driving adifferent car....not to mention first gear is really steep.....i have the 700r4 in my car.....go to Bow tie overdrives (BTO) www.700r4.com and read all about the set up i think mine came from a caprice so you are not limited to looking in camaros.
