Well, the wife and I finished putting on the new convertible top on the vette. I think it came out pretty good for doing the install ourself. It's the first time in 25+years I can see out the rear window. There are a few waves is the rear, but I'll let it settle before I try getting them out. I must have watched the Al Knoch install dvd 100 times before starting, and I still had to keep going back for refreshers. It took about 6-8 hours to do the install. Here are some pics.

Not to bad for a first time installation. And saved about $750.00.
Thanks Wilcox vettes for the sale on the tops.
Hi crf,
Your top looks great in the pictures.
I've watched the Al Knock installer at Carlisle over the years. He's really good at it, BUT, it has to be one of the most difficult jobs on our cars to do well!
I'm proud of your wife and you for taking on the project.
Regards,
Alan
I just got my new stay fast top yesterday. The DVD is on the way now. The car will be home from the paint shop in a few weeks so I will start on it then. Good to see some good results. I too took advantage of The Wilcox sale. Minecis black on a red car.
Nice job on the new top.
The Wilcox deal was better than what you could get at the NCRS weekend directly from Al Knock. I got a new Stafast at the show and just completed the install last weekend. I think the vinyl is a bit more forgiving. I will post some pics later.

Your restoration is terrificly good looking. I looked on Photobucket at your frame, engine, body and the whole package is just terric work. Kudos to you both.
I was wondering if those bullet tail lights were aftermarket. Can't remember what your year was from the factory but I like how they look. May consider them in LED for my '76 at some point. Are you happy with them?
Thanks all. I can now go for a ride without worrying about the weather.
It not a job you can't rush through. I would do one step at a time, then stop, watch the dvd again, then move to the next step.
I would not try installing a top without the dvd, it a great tool. Its dated though. There has been some updates to the convertible top I recieved. The straps and pads are a new type. They also include 2 burlap straps which go inside the top pad. After a few emails was able to figure it out. Al K really need to update the directions in the box to address this.
Is the Stay-Fast material the soft fabric as opposed to the stock plastic?
I would love to replace mine but I don't have a very good "Touch" with things like that. I just spent most of the winter fighting with my interior install...And I'm still not happy with it!!
