yes, I heard you need a certain kind of charger for the optima type batteries.

before i started a complete restore of my 78 (for about the first 18 months i owned it), i had a yellow top installed in the car and used a $25 battery minder that i bought from auto zone and it worked perfectly. i put it on the car every time it was parked in the garage and it never failed to start right up. i would estimate that i used the car about 3 times a month for everything from taking it to a parking lot show on a sunday to taking a cruise of about 200 miles round trip, to just going out for a bit on a friday evening. for the most part the car sat with the charger on it and i never had a problem. to the best of my knowledge, it isn't any kind of "special" charger and i am still using it until the C3 is done and it once again become needed, on my lawn tractor for the time being, lol. works like a charm. many will extoll the virtues of the required name brand unit, but if you check around on the forum, you will find more than a few posts refuting that as a necessity.
