I am thinking that when I restore my late C3 I want to tone down the look from the Flame Red it was when I was driving it as a kid. (25 years ago) I was thinking Steel Cities Gray, but saw a car on a sales site that was Laguna, looks like a cool color, but the photos were not very good.
If someone can post photos of cars this color, and tell me if it is a metallic, or non-metalic color, I would appreciate it. I have a red interior I would like to avoid changing, so color choices are limited.
Boy!! If I wanted a gray car {with a stock C3 color}, the choice between the Steel Cities Gray, Laguna Gray, or the Pewter Silver would be a very tough decision. All are beautiful exterior paint colors. I don't know if any of those colors was ever available with the 'Firemist' paint option, but if so, the Firemist Steel Cities Gray would be stunning.
Thanks for all the photo's everyone. Now I am totally confused. I originally wanted Steel Cities, but was concerned that the green tinge would not look good with the red interior. Then I thought Laguna was perfect . . . but the photo of Pewter looks REALLY nice.

The pewter DOES have a green tint to it, and in certain low light looks almost green but in bright sun looks pure silver
If the interior is a 'dark' red, Pewter Silver and Laguna Gray would look good, and it might look OK with SSG. But, you can always change the color of the interior with $50 worth of vinyl dye (SEM ColorCoat is my recommendation) and a bottle/gas sprayer. Interior color change is very easy to do. Red would not be my choice of interior color with a 'gray' car; but [IMO] the Pewter Silver would be the best choice if you want to keep the red interior.
Yeah, I hear you about the color change. In fact, was never that fond of the red interior, although is has grown on me over the years. About have of the interior will be new (carpet, seatcovers etc) but I have always been leery of the durability of dyed parts.
Sounds like a lot of people have done it. Any insight on the subject?
Daytona69, I love the look of your car with the aftermarket wheels and tires. Do you remember what wheel and tire size it was?
Good quality interior dye...done right...will last as long as the original part color. I used SEM ColorCoat on my interior over 5 years ago and there is no wear or color loss. Surfaces must be C-L-E-A-N for the dye to bond properly with the 'plastic' part.
here's my 70.. hard to tell with my eyes the difference between Laguna and steel cities gray. previous owner who painted it says they tried real hard to match up with the Laguna paint chips.
Around 8% of Corvettes in 70 got this color. ( extrapolating from the 70 registry )
Sure do. They were American Racing Hopsters, 17X8 with 255/50/17 tires all the way around
Daytona69...If I understand it right the 255 is milimeters or that is a tread face of 10" but mounted on an 8" wide rim. Mine is 255 x 60 x R15 wheel though I don't know what width rim it is...an older Progressive wheel with no specs on it. Haven't measured it since tires not off wheels since I've owned it.
What are the limits where you can put a wider tire on a narrower than tread rim? I suspect my wheel might be a 9 x 15" progressive as I saw some for sale. If the 15" tires die as Goodyear is doing for the good gripping 255's then switching to 17" and 50% aspect would be a good way to go so I need to learn.
Could you have bought a 9" x 17 wheel? Why buy an 8" x 17 wheel instead?
