Are you asking from a judges point of view or the owners? Lots of us have done one, the other or both. Ask away.

I guess from a judges point of view. I want to make sure I am doing it right.

if you followed the judging manual to the best of how you can interpret it. then you have nothing to worry about.

The technical manuals are just the basic starting point, not the 'be all and end all', nor does they give any guidelines on how to assess deductions or not.

That's why I asked what the concerns were.

Rick, member (SilverDevil) had his 73 go thru and Top flighted a couple of times
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...onal-pics.html

and member (72ls5fla) from talahassee went thru a couple of top flight awards as well, if you were to PM either of them, I'm sure they would help you out.
You could also inquire over at the NCRS forum, they are allways willing to help.
Regards
Roy

Hi Rick,
I'd be happy to answer some questions too, if I can.
To start:
#1, get ALL the Operations points.
#2, have an NCRS window sticker, battery cut-off, and fire extinguisher placed behind the left rear wheel. FREE POINTS!
Regards,
Alan

Go through the Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide item by item. If you're unsure of something, ask on the NCRS Technical Discussion Board and you will have 400 point judges happy to steer you in the right direction.
Don't sweat the small details, as a couple of points here or there may not be worth the time, effort and money.
Concentrate on Operations, as that's where you stand to lose the most points if things aren't working.
Most of all, have fun, it's a hobby. If you don't achieve Top Flight the first time, you can always try again after "correcting" a few things.
Good luck!

The technical manual is pretty vague sometimes.

That's good advice, especially the key words hobby and fun. I've seen too many guys show up having forgotten both and it ruins everybody's day. This applies to judges as well as owners.

It also pays to judge the car yourself at home with some buddies prior to the real meet as they will pick out a few things or interpret words differently than just scanning through the books on your own. Don't forget the the three 'gimmees' and make use of the provision for driving points.

Go ahead and post some of your questions. All kinds of people on this forum - on the one hand you have people that have looked at plenty of 72s in an NCRS setting but still basically have no clue (me, for example) and otoh you have the NCRS 70-72 team leader who should be able to answer any of your questions if he sees them.

First, join NCRS and buy their judging manual, plus get the scoring sheets for your 72 online. Then spend a weekend doing your own judging and scoring. Actually kind of fun. knowing how many points you need, do an economic anaysis of cost vs points gained to select the dicrepancies that are cheapest to fix. If you can afford it, start spending. As previous posts said, fixing operations has the best return. Get the NCRS sticker, battery cutoff and fire extinguisher. If you can't find a correct part (or can't afford it), get a close DELCO replacement. Then you will get a few of the originality points and, importantly, ALL of the condition points.
