I am getting ready to dye my tan door panels to black. I have two questions that I have not seen answers to through searching this forum.
1. Can the door panel carpet be removed from the door panel to replace it
2. Do most of the COMPLETE carpet kits sold today offer the extra carpet to replace the carpet on the door panels?
I would dye the carpet black but I do not think that I can get in every corner with the dye spray and it will be very difficult near the pocket on the doors.
Most aftermarket parts places that sell the door panels also sell the carpet pieces for the "deluxe" door panels. Yes, you can remove the carpet pieces (and all of the other hardware) from your panels...and you should do so before shooting the dye. If you want detailed instructions on disassembling/reassembling the door panel, you just need to ask.
The best way to re-dye the carpet is to remove and clean it prior to dyeing it.
just did the carpet on my '78 door panels. I purchases the carpet by the yard from http://www.stockinteriors.com Around $30.00 delivery for a huge amount of carpet. Perfect match and delivery was in 2 days.

after removing all the hardware and carpet, be sure to clean and prep the panels well, before dying. They need to be very clean or it will show through the dye. New carpet strips are available from most of the suppliers.
