I'm looking for a part that most folks throw away.... The left door lock mechanism 'splash shield'. Never heard of one? Not surprised. It is a black plastic piece that fits inside the door and on top of the lock assembly. It mounts with two little screws: one on the back edge of the door and one on the inside surface.
I don't think anyone sells a replacement part. I might be able to locate one at a swap meet; but I've never seen one. Just thought someone may have thrown one in their 'junk' pile and would be interested in giving it a 'good home'. I just replaced the lock cylinders on my doors [what a PITA!!!] and found that my right door has one, but my left door does not. I'll pay for shipping and a resonable "fee" if you have one just hangin' around.
Someone had them listed here in the parts for sale section a month or so ago. I have seen them on EBay from time to time. Seems to me that one of the sellers referred to them as a anti theft shield or something to that effect.

Technically, they serve their most useful purpose in keeping water and gunk out of the door opening/locking assembly. I've seen it said they are also a theft deterrent since they block the view down through the window opening.
It was always my belief they were installed to keep thieves from ice picking the door locks.
See, back in the early production years a thief could place a ice pick right next to the door lock cylinder pop it through the fiberglass and unlock the door. If the shield was there the ice pick may penetrate the shield, but it would keep you from being able to flip the door lock lever.
7t1, let me go out in the shop and see.. but I may have a used set out there. I'll post back in a few.
I just bought a pair of NOS shields like you're looking for.
I did a Google on the part number for the shields, found a pair on eBay.
There may have been another place or two with them as well.
They appear to me to prevent fishing for the door lock, using a wire down past the window. May have been to deflect water, a source of icing in the north.
