Default 1972 Delco radio problem

I have a 72 with original radio; the radio works great but I can't get sound on the left dash speaker. The radio lever behind the channel **** does not have the ability to ajust the speaker from left to right. How do I get the dash out to see if wires are out or is there another answer?????????????I'm stumped!

The **** you are turning is a dummy on the monaural radio and is only functional on the stereo version.

The problem you are having is typical of 70-72 radios with original speakers. Pull both left and right sides, install new 4X6" 8-10 ohm versions and you will have no more problems for decades. My recommendation (FWIW) is the pair from www.turnswitch.com/speakers.htm. Greg had those made specifically for the C3's. They are excellent.

If you radio does not sound very good with the new speakers, you should have the electrolytic capacitors replaced and the electrical corrosion removed at a few critical spots in the radio. Mono's were never great performers but they can sound very good and a simple mod will bring ever more performance from the stock amplifier.

A search of the threads on here will lead you to removal and re-installation help. Lots of guys have suffered through it.

Enjoy the good weather up there tomorrow.

Jerry

Or you might have a wire connector that is loose or corroded. I'd check that out before digging into the guts of the dash.

P.S. Even if you fix it with a faulty wire, the sound will be much better with good quality replacement speakers as Jerry suggested.
