which radio?

it has to be 'stock' looking as car is on historic rego, so no din mount cd players allowed
i have c'n lots of negative comments on the USA630 radios....
so what about the KHE series?
mainly the newer 100 -300 models with usb leads on the back panel
does the display show the ID of the mp3 track playing?
zip has these for 210$ / 270$ respectively at the moment
the only difference i can see between them is the output watts 25x4 vs 50x4. is there anything else?
anybody using either of these radios?
good or bad points?
what speakers would you recommend to fit the stock location/s?
will the std speakers work for a while till i could get around to replacing them all, albeit poorer quality sound?
thanks all

I just installed a USA-630 in my 74. Its a 240W (4X60) radio with a USB cable for a iPod or USB memory stick. I replaced the dash speakers with 4x6 Pioneers and had boxes made for the back that contain 6x9 Pioneers. I am not using the speakers in the kick panels. For a a little I added a bass, I added a Bazooka 6" self amplified tube.
Since my car radio never worked, this upgrade works for me. The radio gets good reception with no interference and adding the Bazooka tube gave the system some nice bass without rattling every car around you. The USB cable is tucked under the shifter console and comes out between the console and the passenger seat. I use a 8gig memory stick instead of an iPod. The music data; song name and artist can be seen on LED screen.
There is zero distortion when cranked all the way and it is plenty loud. I drove around with the top down and I could still hear the music fine.
I know there has been a lot of negative reviews of these radios in the past, but I must say, I am more than happy with the sound and the look. I too wanted to keep a stock look to the radio.
Everything in the back can be quick disconnected and removed if I want to.
Here are some pics....

i was looking at the usa630 as well because when it's off the freq dial looks normal
i want it mainly for the usb/mp3 function
i have read lots of bad reports about the quality of these units on here and other sites,
so from over here it's hard to gauge whats what
off the net from the US they sell for about 240$, here a local store wants 350$ for the same thing
and US$ = AU$ dollars that the moment
so i need to get my info before i buy from the US, as it's hard to return items if i dont like it
thanks

IMO, it has enough power and good sound.....I can even install an amp at a later date if I decide it needs it.
I paid $289 for radio.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

the car had a pioneer cd system installed, but i need a stock looking system to be able to pass for historic rego
think i'll look around and get 1 off the net

Most newer radios have remotes.....just another thing to consider.
BTW....I was at a car show yesterday and I received a lot of compliments on the sound and look of the radio.

ie; no mag wheels - std rally only
stock steering wheel - no aftermarket smaller/thicker
no flashy chrome over the engine, braided hoses - rocker covers (except if that perticular year came with them)
no extractors/headers, original make carby and manifold, no wild engines
basically as close to stock when it left the factory
different states here have different rules
i even still have my smog pump as it was a cali car,
but no belt attatched as those rules dont apply
for all of this rego is only $125yr which gives me 90 days in a log book
insurance is $285yr for value of $48k
yes there are a few draw backs, but i can mod to the hilt if i put it on full rego $900+yr

i have seen both the Pioneer TS-G4641R or TS-G4642R used on here.
but they seem to be no longer available in the big stores, and those that have them wont ship down under
any of the kenwood range a direct fit?
any ideas
