Reattaching speedo needle

Reattaching speedo needle

The needle on my speedometer is off of the gauge. I tried pushing the post of the needle back into the hole in the gauge but it wouldnt go in. What is the trick to reattaching the needle?

I was able to get mine back on by gently rocking it and gently pushing it on.
May not be the correct method but it worked for me.
