The Q-Jet is a 750cfm carb...some flow up to 800cfm. But, your '81 carb has an electronic fuel metering device that is part of the earliest computerized engine management systems placed in a Corvette. That system was for one year only and was replaced the following year by twin throttle body fuel injector units (82 & 84 CrossFire induction system). The carb, distributor, O2 sensor and ECM all interconnect to help regulate the fuel flow and minimize emissions. If it still works, don't mess with it. Just my .02...

P.S. You can modify the engine (cam, pistons, heads, headers), but that control system will still do a fine job of engine management, if it is still operational.
