It may depend if your 71 has an early or late build date.
My 70 w/350 was built in July one month before 71 production and it has "M" bolts.
That may not help you but might give you a referencing point.
I have seen both of them, but have not checked production dates of cars to verify. Our car had a set of A on it, it was a 350 base 4 speed which worked out to what our vendor was stating was proper for them. Now with that said, I have not found where NCRS says which one is correct or that it is even judged.
Thanks
Justin
Hi David,
My mid-January 71 car has hex head bolts with a washer flange and a mark of a small, but capital, E, with a circle around it.
I'd think there would be several suppliers and thus several head marks... maybe even mixed in the same bin.
Big Fun!
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan
My take away here , is that this is not an issue to get stuck on for the correct letter. I will order some bolts and get going.
I plan to put the motor back in Saturday.

Please note, that Alan is the original owner of his # 1+ condition car , and his input here indicates that a note may be a good idea on the description of your bolts in your catalog stating that teh letter may vary by car.
