'73 Center (shifter) Console install :-(

I'm putting in a reproduction center console and am not sure how far into the gauge console the forward part fits. I know about the forward brace rivets that pop-up and the two studs from the gauge console - but I still seem to need to go forward about another INCH...

Anyone have a picture of this area?

Also, anyone have any secrets to installing this (PITA) item?

Hi U,
Here are a couple pictures that show the console in my 71.
Perhaps they'll help you determine where yours should be.
